Why not simplify your world and do everything in Adobe software (Photoshop, Bridge, Camera RAW, and LightRoom) instead of jumping between iPhoto and Adobe? You will save yourself a lot of hassle and get better images. I ran into the same problem with iPhoto which was aggravated by know-it-alls at the Apple store who had no clue what a "RAW" file is, but wasted a lot of my time anyway giving me contradictory, useless advice. For the 1D IV & 1D X, it shouldn't be necessary but 'should' is not a guarantee.

Raws from the 7D II have been supported from Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.01 onwards, which requires Yosemite (10.10) or newer. The last Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update, 5.07, for Mavericks (aka 10.9.x) does seem to support the Canon 1D IV, 1D X but not the 7D II (even the original Mavericks aka 10.9.0, seems to support the first two cameras). If you are in a curious mood, you get the free DNG Converter from Adobe, convert one of the non-working raw files to DNG and see if iPhoto will open the DNG (that's another one of those incantations). It is of course possible that the actual raw file has been damaged, by the original memory card, the card reader or other events. The usual incantations have sometimes worked: reboot, re-install the latest OS update (preferably the combo version), re-install the OS (on top of the existing installation, won't change all your user files and settings), update OS. Good luck.Īpple's raw-supporting DAM/raw converters (iPhoto & Aperture) occasionally throw up this message for usually no discernible reason and with no real solution (except if the specific camera model is not supported, which in your case would only apply to raw files from your 7D II, see below). But it's been a long time since I used either. Note that I don't believe you can drag and drop a RAW from iPhoto to PE, only a JPEG. Or maybe one of Adobe's products, if you can find something that will run on the old stuff. Or use something that can run on that old system that supports that Nikon raw, like the software that came with your camera. Apple supplies raw support as part of its system software you need to search on their website to find when it began supporting the cameras you use.

I am not interested in Lightroom as yet as I have only shot Jpegs and this works for me.I just want to experiment with some RAW files before going out of my comfort zone too much for now!Īs already noted, you are probably too far behind in system software. *I have opened Jpegs in Camera Raw within PE14 and used the sliders etc with ok results, but want to start on RAW files I use Canon 1D4, 1DX, and 1D2 at different times. * I import all my photos into iPhoto, then drag/drop into Photoshop Elements 14 only the ones I want to edit (Jpegs) I get a message saying they are unreadable files. I am getting myself all confused trying to work this out.I want try some RAW photo processing, but can't import them into iPhoto.
